So, after two years and a surprise pandemic, I think I’ve actually come to the end of my MA in Illustration at the University of Portsmouth.
I definitely haven’t been updating this blog as often as I should have, but I’ve been hard at work putting together The Mashu: An Observers Guidebook. A handy guide to everything I’ve uncovered in my studies of these remarkable creatures over the last few years.
The book includes chapters on what the Mashu are, their society, behaviours, diet, habitat, breeding and reproduction, and more! Plus there’s some remarkable photographs I’ve managed to capture and sketches of my observations.
At the moment it only exists in eBook format, I’m going to take a few days break and then see about adding it to my Issuu account. Once its up there I may have to order some print copies, and might have a go at printing my own at uni too….
Another quite scary thing is I’ve started following some pretty big publishers on Twitter and LinkedIn. Trying to get a bit of a feel for the books they publish and see if there’s any that would be a good fit for the Mashu?! Would be great to get these guys in a Proper Book™.
I’ve got a few more plans up my sleeve now this MA project is done. I’ve got some ideas for new Mashu merch to add to my RedBubble shop, and I’m going to have a crack at refreshing my 3D skills in Blender to make some digital Mashu which will hopefully lead to some 3D printing too…
I think that’s all for now. I just need to finish digitising my sketchbook and upload it to my submission page with all the other files and I’ll be done. It’s been a fun two years and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next.
